Not Your Mother's Radio
So, my buddy JB and I had our first show today... and if you couldn't tell, our show name is NOT YOUR MOTHER'S RADIO. It's great. We've been friends for a super long time, so we're both excited we get to share our mutual love of music with the masses! Whooo!
But anyhow, we also have a webpage here... and you can subscribe to our podcast here as well. :)
But listen to Not Your Mother's Radio, airing every Friday on KUPS 90.1 FM Tacoma from 10 - 11 AM PST. Love you!

podcastzors?
You can listen to my show now! Online! Forever!
Okay, not quite that exciting...yet. You have to go to this other website, and the shows are posted there in parts. Due to a computer mishap, the first fifteen minutes aren't recorded, but everything else is pretty much there.
Downer: no direct click link to listen-- you gotta go there if you want to hear it!
Upper: on there, you can subscribe to the podcast! YEAAAH. It's in a toolbar to the right. Click it. You'll love it.

So we meet again: 1/27 Playlist
WHAT UP GUYS. I MISSED YOU.
Hope you are enjoying/enjoyed the show. Here's a handy-dandy playlist to guide you across the magical and slightly ear-punishing wonder of THIS IS SCIENCE.
This week's playlist is a nostalgic mix of 2009 (see: Phoenix, Metric, The XX), a nostalgic mix of even more nostalgic stuff (Edward Sharpe, Modest Mouse, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs) with a dash of booty shaking (Sleigh Bells, Chromeo, KiD CuDi). To get even more general, this is essentially what I've been listening to all winter break and have been dying to share!
Crown on the Ground | Sleigh Bells (see: ear-punishing, booty shaking)
Hide it Away | Retribution Gospel Choir
Percussion Gun | White Rabbits
Front Row | Metric
Lisztomania | Phoenix
Bonafied Lovin (Tough Guys) | Chromeo
Day N Nite | KiD CuDi
Heart Skipped a Beat | The XX
Fire it Up | Modest Mouse (I almost got a ticket to this song in high school. Good times.)
Home | Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
Old New England | Boy Genius (I'm trying to be clever here. Ha ha... get it? I'm from the other coast? Home? New England? Yeah?)
For You | Sharon Van Etten
Pressure | Argyle Johansen
Daisy Chain | Lady of the Sunshine
10x10 | The Yeah Yeah Yeahs (because what kind of show would this be without them?)

phew.
I have such a huge girl crush on the lead singer from Sleigh Bells. HUGE. You probably will, too, after watching this.
Sorry Karen O. My eyes wander sometimes.

Beach House
Beach House's upcoming album, "Teen Dream" is up on exclusive first listen on NPR. I'm late I know-- the album is due out this Tuesday. But ever since the beautiful "Norway," I've been loving me some Beach House. That, and the fact they are from B-MORE FO'SHO.
holler!
So, no idea yet when THIS IS SCIENCE will be back on air (should be hearing tomorrow, if all has gone well!) but I DO know that I will possibly be having a co-host show with one of my best buds. Cross your fingers for us!
But in the meanwhile, can someone tell me why I can't stop listening to Amanda Blank's "Might Like You Better," even though it is the most ridiculous song I've heard in a while (and the last ridiculous song I can remember is Plain Pat's I-got-purple song, which is pretty effing ridiculous)? I know I'm a little late on the Amanda Blank boat, but phew.

Sleigh Bells
[From Sleigh Bell's myspace page]
I've had Crown on the Ground on repeat all day, and now thanks to stereogum, I've got a bunch of their other demos, now-- GO GO GO!
Anyhow, insane synths; danceable fat, lo-fi, raw beats copped from your favorite rap song; and smooth, liquid-ey vocals make this extremely catchy, extremely awesome, and extremely dangerous (with regards to hurting yourself while dancing).
One thing puts me off, though: "Sleigh Bells"? What's the story behind that name? But in any case, five dollars says they'll be huge by the end of 2010.
Listen: A/B Machines, Infinity Guitar, Crown on the Ground

Music I Missed in 2009 (but am totally digging right now)
So, I've been perusing a lot of "best of 2009" lists, and have realized I've missed a lot of really good music. Here are some albums that are on repeat at the moment.
Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, Phoenix
First off, awesome album title. Second off, awesome first single title (Lisztomania). Third off, super dance-able (and you know how much I love that). Fourth off, I really love this video for Lisztomania.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
Actually, I think this album came out in 2008, if memory serves me right, but eh, missed is missed.
I saw the music video for "Home" during finals week and subsequently had the song stuck in my head during my exams. I promptly downloaded it the morning before going to the airport (second attempt out of three) and it was definitely a comfort to listen to while I was sitting in Seatac for eight hours.
But I like this album because I enjoy the idea of a traveling band of hippies from a commune who make sweet sweet music with Southern twang and soul. I also love their music videos-- they all definitely have a very 70s aesthetic to them.
Also, Jade Castellanos rocks the tambourine. What's more to love?

Bitte Orca, The Dirty Projectors
The Bride is playing right now, and wow. The vocals had me quite confused for a moment there-- I couldn't tell if the singer was a dude or a chick for a while. Yay musical androgyny? I haven't listened to this album too extensively yet, but I already feel warm towards it. We'll have a long, two and a half hour train ride to NYC this Friday to acquaint ourselves. :)
