Artist of the Week: Thao and the Get Down Stay Down

I'm seriously digging the new album "Know Better Learn Faster." Thao's distinct and highly nuanced vocals, in addition to awesome beats from the Get Down Stay Down, are a little more refined and a little more mature in this album. I think I can definitely say I like it more than "We Brave Bee Stings and All." But that playful persona Thao is known for is definitely still there.

I've read elsewhere that this is supposed to be a break-up album of sorts, and I agree: it makes for good sitting-by-the-window-and-watching-it-rain-and-thinking-about-how-it-was-good-when-it-was-going-but-ended-up-going-to-the-shitter-but-oh-well-it's-all-good-in-da-hood kind of music. And what with the PNW being in a fall-raining-into-winter kind of mood, goodness knows we need a soundtrack for that.

And it is all good in da hood with Thao and the Get Down Stay Down. HOLLER!

Listen for:
Body (zesty, but zesty like you got a little bit of lemon juice in a cut on your finger)
When We Swam (catchy)
But What of the Strangers ("But, oh, what of this desert between?/
Oh, oh, what then of the strangers?/Oh, oh, what then of us?" yeah. you know what this is. go ahead, watch that rain.)
